چکیده
Significant evolutionary stages of Selinitsa Cave (SW Peloponnese, Greece) were revealed by 3D mapping, as well geomorphological study the cave and nearby landscape. Four marine terraces identified in area coastal at 6, 10.7, 16.6, 30–32 m above sea level (asl), with terrace 16.6 representing Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5. The widest karstified space clusters between 15.73 18.05 peak lying 16.4 asl, corresponding to where phreatic/epiphreatic zone was stable for a sufficient period time. A tidal notch asl entrance is correlated m. Both features correspond sea-level stand which intense karstification occurred. bears horizontal arrangement Lithophaga borings vertex. Sedimentological investigation fine-grained deposit paleohydrologic regime cave. It characterized “slack-water” facies, indicating very low water flow speeds, whereas thickness points hydrological conditions prolonged periods. sediment height 18.8 indicates flooding higher than level. overlying Plattenkalk flysch most probably major source detritus, predominance authigenic dolomite (>98% modal carbonate fraction) hyposaline environment related mixing percolating fresh water. approach this shows significance bio-geo-Relative Sea Level (RSL) indicators, sedimentology deciphering paleogeographic evolution karstic systems subsequently defining paleoclimate areas Greece eastern Mediterranean during Late Quaternary.

GIS-Based Landslide Susceptibility Mapping on the Peloponnese Peninsula, Greece
In this paper, bivariate statistical analysis modeling was applied and validated to derive a landslide susceptibility map of Peloponnese (Greece) at a regional scale. For this purpose, landslide-conditioning factors such as elevation, slope, aspect, lithology, land cover, mean annual precipitation (MAP) and peak ground acceleration (PGA), and a landslide inventory were analyzed within a GIS env...
متن کاملQuaternary coastal morphology and sea-level changes—an introduction
Few things remain static in natural systems and perhaps no better illustrated than by changes in the level of the ocean surface with respect to the land over Quaternary timescales. The position of sea level (ultimate base level) and changes of sea level over geological timescales represent important controls in the evolution of coastal environments, and as an agent of profound geomorphological ...
متن کاملLate Quaternary sea-level and tectonic changes in northeast Fiji
The islands of northeast Fiji studied are all the emergent parts of the northern end of the Lau^Colville Ridge, a remnant island arc which has been rising for most of the Quaternary. Within the study area, investigations of coastal landforms (primarily emerged notches and shore platforms) and emerged coral reefs allow rates of tectonic movements to be calculated. The Vanuabalavu Island group is...
متن کاملOn the evolution of diet and landscape during the Upper Paleolithic through Mesolithic at Franchthi Cave (Peloponnese, Greece).
Franchthi Cave in southern Greece preserves one of the most remarkable records of socioeconomic change of the Late Pleistocene through early Holocene. Located on the southern end of the Argolid Peninsula, the area around the site was greatly affected by climate variation and marine transgression. This study examines the complex interplay of site formation processes (material deposition rates), ...
متن کاملSedimentological and Geomorphological Classification of Chabahar Coastal Area (Chabahar-Gawater)
In the present paper various transects perpendicular to Iranian Makran coasts (Chabahar-Gawater) were studied using satellite image processing, field observations, sandy shore profiling and grain size analysis to evaluate sedimentology and geomorphology of the area. Data revealed that the study area includes exposed rocky shores (52%), sandy shores (40%), and mud flats (8%) sheltered in estuari...
